Paint Jars

Paint Jars

Jars of paint like these were used throughout the years at The Walt Disney Studios’ Ink and Paint Department and vary by color shade, composition, name, and age. A painter’s job—primarily done by women—entailed applying color quickly and exactly within the lines of an inked animation cel before it was sent to be photographed for the screen. This display case contains examples of color keys created in the Studio Paint Lab—a process developed and originally supervised by Mary Weiser.
